There are many Oriental rugs, but not all of them are qualified to be part of Paddock's inventory. Paddock's experts personally inspect and select each and every Oriental rug we stock. The ultimate question we're trying to answer is: will this Oriental rug hold its value in trade? So here's what we look for, and some of the questions we ask:

  • Color: Are the colors pleasant-do they work well together?

  • Value: Compared to other suppliers or equivalent products from other countries, does this Oriental rug offer customers a good value today? And will it hold that value until customers may want to trade it in?

  • Workmanship: Average quality is not acceptable in this category! We carefully inspect an Oriental rug's weaves and knot count. Is the knot count correct for that particular design? Was the design executed correctly?

  • Materials: Have they used high-quality wool, cotton, or silk?

  • Density: How dense is the pile of the rug? The denser your Oriental rug, the more durable.

  • Thickness: Thickness of an Oriental rug is important, but it is not as important as density. When we're testing for durability, we have to consider all of the aspects of the rug, not just the thickness. As a matter of fact, an Oriental rug's thickness is more closely related to the type of rug it is than its durability.

  • Technical Aspects: Is the rug straight? Does it lay flat enough?

These are the questions that we ask before stocking a rug; these are the questions that you should ask before purchasing one.
